THE GALA on Saturday at Knockdown Center

This weekend, I'll be exhibiting as Social Malpractice Publishing during BABZ Fair 2017 at the Knockdown Center. It's always a great artist book fair, now in its fifth year, organized by Sonel Breslav. This will be my first time participating, and I'm very much looking forward to it. I'll be tabling books by Ana Fabrega, Jayson Musson, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, and many others.

Throughout the weekend, there is also an amazing lineup of performances and readings, BABZ Miami Beach, curated by Andrea Arrubla. I'm fortunate to have been included in the program on Saturday, 03 June at 6:00pm in the large outdoor space in front of Knockdown. In collaboration with an incredible lineup of players, I'm leading a table-read of the first act of an in-progress play I've been working on called THE GALA. It's about an artist residency program in Northern Michigan that's led by a despotic maniac named Dougbus Leach, whose residents do daily manual labor to prepare for his annual fundraising gala. Plotting in the woods a few miles away is an ecological terrorist encampment known as the Bandana Republic. Their leader, Belissa Rutabaga, is a former employee and mentee of Dougbus', and she intends to stage a spectacle of extreme violence at his gala that will end his residency program, and his life. There is also a half-dog, half-man local legend terrorizing the countryside. It's very academic.

If you're at Knockdown on Saturday, please check it out. Readers include:

Azikiwe Mohammed as Dougbus Leach, director of the Old Mission Artists Colony

Eric Allan Schwartau as WW Chauncey, his assistant

Amy Zimmer as Staffonly Carter, his development director

James Allister Sprang as Gobador, an artist-in-residence
