Humorgous Smorgasbord at Flux Factory in Long Island City
Tomorrow night from 6-10pm at the storied artist residency/project space Flux Factory in Long Island City, current residents Sarah Dahlinger and Danny Crump have co-curated "Humorgous Smorgasboard," an exhibition of artworks representing "a contemporary snapshot of incongruity, from dark irony to sugary one-liners, engaging thoughtful and physical aspects of humor and laughter."
It's part of the Flux Major Exhibition series and features no shortage of funny ass artists and performers including Sandra Araújo, Rachelle Beaudoin, Jemima Burrill, Nelmarie Du Preez, Jacqueline van de Geer, Flannery Cashill and Rachel Mesplay Helm, Hans Hansen, Becca Kauffman, Richard Kostelanetz, Seth Timothy Larson and Abigail Entsminger, Cayla Lockwood, Robin Mandel, Peter Morgan, Eugenia Pigassiou, Caitlin Foley and Misha Rabinovich, H. C. Turk, Jane Venis, Jeffu Warmouth, Jaimie Warren, and Calder Zwicky.
The opening reception tomorrow night will feature live performances including Seth Timothy Larson and Abigail Entsminger's It Was Going to Solve Everything and Get Me Laid!, Jeffu Warmouth's Three Heads are Better Than One, Eugenia Pigassiou's Body of Work in Regress, mysterious pieces by the brilliant Becca Kaufman and crowd-pleaser Jaimie Warren, plus a happening featuring comedians Lorelei Ramirez, Amy Zimmer, and Ruby McCollister.
On the September 14th iteration of Flux Thursdays during the run of the exhibition, swing through at 7pm for a free dinner sponsored by Zabar's, followed by performances including Jacqueline van de Geer's The Paperbag Queen, Richard Kostelanetz's Soho: The Rise and Fall of an Artist Colony, Cayla Lockwood's HEALTHCARE™ and the Technology-Centered Connection℠ Program, and Caitlin Foley and Misha Rabinovich's Snortation. It's sure to be a LULZ-packed kickoff to the fall season.
Humor and the Abject readers might recognize Dahlinger and Crump from their "Good Humor" exhibition at Flux Factory in 2015, or their more recent "Plaster Ice Cream Sculpture Workshop" at the Knockdown Center in July. To get a taste of their personal work (sorry), check out the video below:
