What an absolutely fucking screedling weekend it's turning out to be. If you've been wondering what exactly you should be doing to maximize our collective ascension into spring, please allow me to humbly recommend a couple of events to get you all sprightly and sprung. 

On Friday, February 23rd from 7-9pm, artist-run gallery Essex Flowers is hosting the opening reception for "Home Edition," an exhibition where they're planning to somehow show more than thirty artists' works in their storefront on Monroe in Chinatown. The theme here is home life, with a collection of works echoing the aesthetics of domesticity in at effort to confront how we adorn and occupy living spaces in the twenty-first century. The lineup is a killer selection of artists from multiple disciplines who share a common thread: an everyday type of fascination with home goods. 

According to the press release, the exhibition is scheduled to include a satellite element from March 8th through March 11th during NADA New York as part of NADA Projects. Essex Flowers is planning to present "the exterior to [the 'Home Edition'] space, curating a quotidian site of commerce: a yard sale on the home's front steps." I'm eager to see what that will ultimately look like, as part of NADA's charm has always been the weird projects they incorporate in addition to the traditional gallery booths.

Smith, Ben Dowell, Willie Wayne Smith, Amy Ruhl, Elise Duryee-Browner, Martha Mysko, Ofra Lapid, Denise Kupferschmidt, Robert Scott Whipkey, Jordan Nassar, Elizabeth Ferry, Ryan Falkowitz, Colby Bird, Sophy Naess, Amanda Baldwin, Michael Welsh, Patrick Arnold, Will Stewart, Hanna Sandin, Erika Somogyi, Ruth Rodriguez, Nickolaus Typaldos, Lydia McCarthy, Jamie Gecker, Nancy Smith "...and more."

On Sunday, February 25th from 2-6pm, catch friends-of-the-pod Talk Hole's latest "artjacent" comedy event, ANUS (Annual New Unfluencers Summit). It's part of the ongoing Sunday Sessions at MoMA PS1, which emphasizes presenting "artistic practices that blur and break traditional genre boundaries," and that "supports and commissions new work, inviting artists, curators, and other cultural instigators to share their latest projects." It's worth noting that the official event page on MoMA PS1's website spells out the event name in its entirety, avoiding the acronym "ANUS." Is this because of pressure from corporate sponsors VW, an automobile manufacturer notorious for its fear of the butthole? Your guess is as good as mine. 

I'm in absolute crisis mode that I can't go to this, but I'm heading out that morning to East Hampton for a site visit at Halsey McKay with artist David Kennedy Cutler who is living in the gallery for his exhibition "Off Season." A podcast recorded on-site is forthcoming. ANUS is hosted by Talk Hole co-founders Eric Allan Schwartau and Steven Phillips-Horst and will feature performances by Julio Torres, Ana Fabrega, Catherine Cohen, Ruby McCollister, Alex Tatarsky, Lily Marotta, Alexandra Schmidt, Mitra Jouhari, and DJ Physical Therapy.
