New Piece for artnet News on Artist-Run Galleries Outside of Major Art Markets
This morning, artnet News published a piece that I wrote about artist-run galleries and project spaces that are thriving outside of traditional art market cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. It's a small sampling, and I'm on the hunt for more. So, please send me any tips if you've got more spaces that I should check out for a future blog post: sean@humorandtheabject.com.
I did a little email interview with each of the spaces listed in this article, and I'll be posting those to the blog in the coming days with some more images from each of them to give everybody a larger sense of who is running the spaces, what their missions are, and how they maintain the overhead of a physical space. Big thanks to S1 in Portland, Anytime Dept. in Cincinnati, Good Weather in North Little Rock, The Front in New Orleans, and Sadie Halie Projects in Minneapolis!
If you'd like to learn about even more spaces outside of art market metropolises, Creative Capital's blog has just launched what will be an ongoing series called Where Art Happens. The first entry is on WonderRoot from Atlanta!
